LA’s The Dead Ships craft soulful garage rock that has drawn comparisons to bands like The Strokes, The Black Keys, and Alabama Shakes. The trio released their new single “Canyon” this fall — produced by Broken Social Scene’s Brendan Canning and mixed by the Grammy-nominated Alex Newport (At The Drive-In, Death Cab for Cutie, Bloc Party)

— and now they’ve shared a cinematic new video for the track. Playing out across California’s rocky landscapes and busy highways, you can watch the “Canyon” video where it premiered with Entertainment Weekly or via YouTube.

Available via Bandcamp, “Canyon” offers a sneak peek at the band’s upcoming release, due out next spring. Also produced by Canning, it marks the first time that the Broken Social Scene member has taken on the role of producer for a band other than his own.

Having toured with Two Gallants and shared stages with acts like Yo La Tengo, She & Him, and Childish Gambino, The Dead Ships were nominated for “Best Show of 2014” by DoLA, who collaborated with a handful of local tastemakers to narrow down thousands of live shows to their top 10. DoLA joins a long list of local outlets (including the LA TimesBuzzbands.LA, and Grimy Goods) that have praised the band for its energetic and electric live show.
