VNDL:  Describe your work/process?

MM:  I have a pretty sick obsession with documenting everything going on around me that when i spot something amazing and I have no camera with me I feel as though I could spontaneously combust! Its both horrific and awesome because there is not a day that goes by that I don’t take pictures, my camera has become almost an exterior organ to me. When I get home I immediately upload everything and whatever sticks out to me i throw it in photoshop and distort it into something even more bizarre and fantastic. Because I take so many pictures I forget about a lot of them and go back three years on my hard drive and find some that blow me away. I love that I am constantly excited and surprised with my work and the world around me, i feel really lucky.

What have you been up to recently? (trips, projects, work?)

I lived in New York City up until a few months ago and to my horror I fell out of love with it and decided it was time to move on- I took a huge risk by leaving everything and moving randomly to Paris without a clue. I step back and am blown away by how much it has paid off so far- Being in such a foreign place all by myself forced me to work so much harder than I ever knew I was capable of and now I am kicking so much ass! – I got into the fine art program at the Sorbonne, I just had my first big exhibition downtown in NYC and the head art critic of the New York Times even showed up! This summer so far has been so much traveling and spending it with some really incredible people and learning what it means to really be alive ( and obviously taking an insane amount of pictures! ) All of this taught me how important it is to follow your heart and never ever ever stop chasing after what you love. I am so excited about life right now I can’t wait to see what is next !

Favorite Camera? (weapon of choice)

I have so many its hard to pick! I recently got a Canon g15 and tricked it out with an amazing cheap plastic flash. It takes awesome photos when i’m just shooting for my personal projects and its small / sturdy enough that I can take it with me everywhere and not worry about dropping it or someone(mostly me) spilling drinks on it ha!

Advice to other creative’s/aspiring artists?

give it everything, become a machine and don’t ever stop

What are you currently listening to/reading/ watching?

I just got back from a festival outside Amsterdam where one of my favorites Bonobo played in the middle of a forest- I still get shaky thinking about it – he has a Late Night Tales compilation that I have been playing on repeat! I just finished Tropic of Cancer by Henry Miller which one of my best friends gave to me as a going away present. Definitely made me lust over Paris even more! As far as watching… I have been binge watching Cosmos with my friends recently, I am a total nerd I adore Neil DeGrasse Tyson !

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
