Baltimore may not get the same attention as NYC to the north or DC to the south, but that’s no good reason to overlook Charm City’s burgeoning indie pedigree. Mt. Royal are the latest great example to surface from the Chesapeake– although if you’ve been paying attention you likely already recognize some of them. The band, comprised of Katrina Ford (also of Celebration; vocals), Ed Harris (bass), Matt Pierce, (keys) and Woody Ranere (guitar) have long thrived in Baltimore’s local scene. They’ve coalesced to write their s/t debut, a six song set recorded in part with Dave Fridmann (Flaming Lips, MGMT, Sleater Kinney.) Mt Royal pack quite a few highlights into just 26 minutes. There’s the distorted bass melody of leadoff “Missing Reward,” the Maus-ian atmospherics of “Yes, Your Majesty,” and the nimble shuffle of “Mockingbird” all haunted by Ford’s smoky range. “Mt Royal” is bursting at the seams and due January 28th via Bella Union / [PIAS] America. Mt. Royal, the self titled EP, is released January 27th on Bella Union – http://www.bellaunion.com http://mtroyalband.com/ http://www.twitter.com/mtroyalband http://www.facebook.com/mtroyalband Director: Laura Germida Director of Photography: John McGarity Leave a Reply Cancel Reply Your email address will not be published.CommentName* Email* Website Notify me of follow-up comments by email.
