Words – Brooke Brunson From their first live performance together in May 2013 to just coming back from their first tour, the Dresses Band have definitely taken the world by storm. With a growing online fan base and only two of them in the band, Timothy (girl) and Jared (guy) make a perfect team. Having musical influences from bands like the Local Natives and female artists like Kimbra, Heart, and Stevie Nicks it’s no wonder why their music has such a harmonized vibe. Besides their amazing touring, you can also find them on YouTube doing covers for different songs like Thinking about You by Frank Ocean, Stubborn Love by The Lumineers, and Houdini by Foster the People. But despite being musical geniuses they are also are a couple in real-life. Touring the world together while doing something they both love and enjoy. Yet even though they may butt-heads about ideas from time to time they always manage to both come to an agreement. Creating a show-stopping duet that will be looking forward to an amazing new year that will be filled with writing and more touring. When did you guys meet? We met in January of 2012! What inspired you to make music together? We both really enjoyed each other’s demo/solo music online, and knew of each other in high school. We both had a feeling that we would be able to mesh well together musically, so we took a shot at it! How did you come up with the name for the band? We had been thinking of names for so long, until one day our friend said, “Dresses?” And we dug it! No crazy cool story, sadly. Do you have any hobbies or similar interest? We both love all sorts of music and movies, going to shows, hanging with friends, etc. I (Jared) really like hiking, can’t wait for summer because we have the best outdoors everything in Portland. Do you have any musical or major influences? Timothy is inspired by a lot of female artists like Kimbra, Heart, Stevie Nicks, etc. I’m inspired by live music and vocal harmonies and arrangements. Bands like local natives blow me away. When and where was your first performance? Our first performance as dresses what at Doug Fir in PDX in May of 2013. Have you done any covers for any songs and if so what? Yes! They’re on our YouTube channel. We’ve done Houdini by Foster the People, Thinking about you by Frank Ocean, Stubborn Love by The Lumineers, and among others. What was it like going on your first tour? It was amazing! A crazy experience indeed, we had a lot of fun playing for so many people in so many cities. Can’t wait to go out again. Have you ever overcame any struggles as a band and if so what? Probably one major thing is just the struggle of agreeing on things. There are only 2 of us that have to call the shots, but there’s some head butting some times. But it happens! What is your most memorable moment together? Opening for Phoenix at Crystal Ballroom! That was insane. There were probably about 1300 people and I feel like we played really well, and the guys in Phoenix were so kind. Where can people find your music? Online! You can find us at any site / dressestheband.com. Also on iTunes, and any other online music sales, and on the sideonedummy.com website. What can we expect from you in 2014? Touring! Along with more writing, and writing, and writing, and hopefully some recording! Super excited for this year Leave a Reply Cancel Reply Your email address will not be published.CommentName* Email* Website Notify me of follow-up comments by email. Notify me of new posts by email.
