11_3VNDL: Describe your work/process.

RC:  My work is a mix of fashion projects and more personal projects. I am increasingly inspired by the people around me and work spurs from that a lot of the time. I love experimenting with new types of collaboration and faces – it’s a breath of fresh air. Dreams, fantasy, other world-ly things are involved much of the time.I think that lonely and unsettling feeling, and the romance of an image are often intertwined in my mind. It’s hard for me to sever one thing from the other and I like to create work that has that edge of darkness. 13_3_v3 17_003_3What have you been up to recently? (trips, projects, work?)

I am currently working on some studio projects that are going to be heavily involved in portraiture! Other than that, I am collaborating with a lot of talented individuals at my school for fashion lookbooks, editorials, and more. Watch soon for some new things published! 38_modo_RebekahCampbell_ThatWasMyEscape_5 40_02_5 Favorite Quote

I’m a quote hoarder. Current favorite: Haruki Murakami “People’s memories are maybe the fuel they burn to stay alive. Whether those memories have any actual importance or not, it doesn’t matter as far as the maintenance of life is concerned. They’re all just fuel.”40_1348011798img035-700x466 46_rebekah_campbell-1_v3 46_rebekah_campbell-2_v2Advice to other creative’s/aspiring artists

Don’t look at yourself as already an artist, look down on your art because that is the only way to keep getting good. I usually like what I do the first few days of having it but then a few weeks go by and I hate it. You can’t win everything. While comparing yourself will only make you feel bad, that is a fuel to make amazing, unseen, art of all kinds. 47__DSC0001-1 48__DSC0683 48_05_9 49__DSC0528What are you currently listening to/reading/ watching?

Listening to – ‘Parix’ When Saints Go Machine, ‘Hondura’ White Birds. Reading – IQ84  by Haruki Murakami and Simone de Beauvoir’s The Woman Destroyed. Watching – the newest episodes of Parks and Recreation. 50__DSC0241 51__MG_7795 53_rebekah_campbell-30Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Hopefully in a place where I can find jobs, but also somewhere that isn’t suffocating my photographs. I want to be able to travel and make work at the same time. 58_untitled-9_v4 rsz_h662_1_27Who is or where does your inspiration come from? Any emerging artists to watch out for?

Lots of movies, other photographers, old fashion magazines, music I listen to, scrounging for new ideas on the internet. Some current favorites are: Elinor Carucci, Hana Knizova, Michal Chelbin, Chad Moore, Yelena Yemchuk
