kelsea kosko vndl April 9, 2013 Photography VNDL: Describe your work/process KK: I shoot with a few different cameras, really depends on the project. I usually use my DLSR for fashion photography, but like to use a polaroid, disposable, and Minolta xg9 for special projects as well as for personal work. I work pretty fast and don’t say much when I shoot. Sometimes that makes clients mad. Now that the weather is bearable I have been shooting as much as I can outdoors. What have you been up to recently? (trips, projects, work?) Recently had the incredible opportunity to attend SXSW in Texas! I was filming an event there for Dolce Vita and in the meantime saw some of my favorite bands play. It’s also been exciting to see editorials I shot months ago finally come out for spring issues; one of my favorites is the story I shot of musician Rachel Trachtenburg for Material Girl. I also finally finished my first zine, which is a collection of prose and personal photographs. And now working on volume ii. Favorite Quote “You can tell the deepest truths with the lies of fiction.” –Isabel Allende Advice to other creative’s/aspiring artists It’s difficult for me to answer that question.. I feel like every creative is different, their process, their goals/exactly what they want to achieve, and way of going about things is much different from the other. I have a friend who is always saying he’s not a hustler and has never been that way, yet so many of his photographer friends are..his work is really beautiful and I wouldn’t want to ever say to him “you should hustle more.” What are you currently listening to/reading/ watching? I am currently listening to the Coat Hangers. They are an all girls band with this fantastic Japanese punk vibe. Just picked up a copy of Viviane Sassen’s In and Out of Fashion, as well as Anders Peterson’s Cafe Lehmitz. I don’t watch much television and the only movie I’ve seen recently is Spring Breakers!! Where do you see yourself in 5 years? I hope I am happy, felt like I’ve grown, and gotten to travel plenty. Who is or where does your inspiration come from? Any emerging artists to watch out for? My inspiration comes from the music I’m listening to, the places I go, but mainly from friends and people I meet..their personalities, mindsets, and overall look/aesthetic they exude. Some emerging artists I would definitely watch out for include Matt Holmes and Dominik Tarabanski; they are both incredibly passionate about their work and it very clearly shows.
