VNDL: Describe your work/process.

JJ: I don’t have a specific way to edit, my shoots and editing process varies…. I just like to have fun with whatever I do and make an adventure out of my shoots.

What have you been up to recently (trips, projects, work)?

Well I just got done shooting some work with the model Giza Lagarce for Yume Magazine and it will be in their 5th issue. I just moved to New York a month ago from California and it’s definitely and exciting, interesting, place to be.

Advice to other creatives/aspiring artists?

One thing I really would like to emphasize is network. Meeting and keeping in touch with people is crucial, even if the person isn’t someone you can benefit from they might be a friend of someone who can help you in the future. Always keep meeting people, that is probably 80 percent of what it is to being a photographer.

What are you currently listening to/reading/watching?

I listen to a lot of upcoming artist from every genre. Probably what I am listening to the most is Taku, Sango, Toro Y Moi, Stevie Crooks, Kendrick Lamar.

Shows as of right now are The Walking Dead, Shameless, and House Of Lies.

I don’t have much time to sit down and read as of lately but 50 Shades of Gray was the last book I was reading.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Possibly somewhere in Europe shooting for Gucci or something. It’s kind of hard to predict with this type of career. For all I know, it can happen tomorrow but can also happen years from now. I think that is why I like doing what I do, I don’t know what the outcome will be. It is always a mystery.

Who is or where does your inspiration come from?

Any emerging artists to watch out for? I get my inspiration from everywhere, people, scenery, music, etc. I would like to say my head is a good portion of it, if I get bored enough, I end up coming up with the most random things. Though for those who don’t know my brother Cameron Davis, he is a great photographer as well and he gives me a lot of inspiration for shoots. I think my work get’s better due to him since I kind of see him as my rival.

Jonne Johnson is a photographer based out of Los Angeles & New York City.
