VNDL:  Describe your work/process.

DB:  The last year or so have been pretty heavy on the advertising side of things, for good and bad. Really glad that I took some time off that and completed my first book project this previous fall though. After 12 years in the snowboarding industry

I decided to sum that work up in a hardcover book project that I self-published.  Other than that I try to find a good balance of work that pays the bills and work that feeds the soul, and luckily for me I get to combine those two quite often.

What have you been up to recently? (trips, projects, work?)

Basically the book project, Drifting Decade, too up all my time this past summer and fall with photo selection, designing (thanks 1-2-3) and prep work for the release and exhibits. Now when that has slowed down a bit I’ve been on commissioned assignments in Finland, Austria, Maui and Idaho.

Advice to other creative’s/aspiring artists

Don’t go comparing yourself to others and don’t try and rush your “carrier”. You’ll hopefully be doing what you love for 40 or so years, so you’ll have plenty of time to grow into whatever it is you’re going after.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Sometime I’ll picture myself in a cabin in the woods with no internet, but perhaps not too likely. I hope to be doing something I don’t consider work, enjoying life with family and friends The Cold TRice

Who is or where does your inspiration come from? Any emerging artists to watch out for?

I try not to look too much at other photography, but a couple of exhibits that really got to me was Nadav Kander and Gursky. Also really like what Jake Stangel has been doing the last few years. For someone to look out for, check Carlos Blanchard.
