In his own words: “I’ve always been interested in portraiture more than any other type of photography, I feel like there’s a certain lack of control you have over another human being that creates the interest in the image. I might have a very specific mood, environment, or even prop I’d like them to play with but at the end of the day my cf card/roll of film/computer is full of what they chose to give me. Even when I’m photographing people I know, like for my project “My Way Home” I usually ask them to do things for me, recreate something for the camera, and half the time the photo I make that I like is something they chose to do for me. That variety is the appeal to photographing people. I also get real hyped by the idea of shooting talent and I have no idea what they’ll be like. What can I get them to do? Will they take my idea and run with it? Maybe even creating a new idea that completely belittles my original concept? That shit is exhilarating, for real.” – Meron Menghistab Meron Menghistab is a photographer based out of Brooklyn, NY.
